Investigation continues into suspicious Maria Street fire

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office, Sarnia fire, and Sarnia police continue to investigate what they're calling a suspicious blaze early Sunday on Maria Street.

Cst. Nelson Amaral said Monday they believe the fire at 227 Maria Street was deliberately set.

"Sarnia police are requesting the public's assistance in regards to any witnesses, information, or persons that would have video surveillance or dashcam footage in and around this area at the time of the incident."

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Detective Constable Halfpenny of the Sarnia Police Service, Criminal Investigations Division at 519-344-8861 Ext. 6213.

Cst. Amaral said the home and contents appear to be a total loss and the owner was not insured.

Police had Maria Street between Mitton Street and College Avenue blocked off Sunday, and the immediate scene was still secured Monday.

Sarnia firefighters responded just after 7 a.m.

There were no injuries.
