Man arrested in connection with Maria Street fire

Sarnia police have arrested a 58-year-old Niagara Falls man for allegedly uttering threats related to a recent house fire at 227 Maria Street.

Police and fire crews responded to the blaze, which was believed to have been deliberately set, at around 7:20 a.m. December 20.

Police said no one was hurt in the fire.

Joseph Lionel Robert Nicholas Gandon is charged with uttering a threat to cause death, and uttering a threat to burn property.

The suspect has been released on an undertaking.

The Sarnia Police Criminal Investigation Division, and the Ontario Fire Marshall's office continue to investigate.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
