Sarnia police have arrested one man and requested a warrant for the arrest of a woman in relation to a violent assault Wednesday.

Sarnia police Cst. Nelson Amaral said officers and Lambton EMS responded to reports of a man bleeding and lying unconscious in a hallway of an apartment complex in the 100 block of College Avenue South around 4:30 p.m. December 30.

A 33-year-old man from Port Lambton had suffered significant injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Amaral said the police investigation determined an altercation had taken place between the male victim and a 25-year-old woman from Sarnia.

He said the initial altercation escalated, and it's alleged the woman and a 25-year-old man from Petrolia, struck the victim with a baseball bat.

The 25-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing and has since been released.

A warrant has been requested for the arrest of the woman for assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Amaral said there is no concern for public safety as it was an isolated incident and the individuals were all known to each other.

No names have been released.
