LTC drivers not collecting fares

Officials at the London Transit Commission say drivers won't be collecting fares for at least the next couple of weeks.

The LTC announced Thursday that it is implementing a couple of measures to increase the safety of drivers and riders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"For the health and safety of our Operators and riders, in response to the novel coronavirus [COVID-19] outbreak, London Transit will be asking conventional transit customers to board and alight buses through the REAR doors only for the period of March 20 to April 5, 2020," the LTC said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon. "As a result, London Transit will not be collecting fares on conventional transit for this period."

The LTC said passengers with accessibility needs will still be able to board and exit buses at the front door. It's also urging people to avoid using public transit if they have a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, or if they have been in close contact with a person who is a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19.

While riding the bus, passengers are urged to cough or sneeze into their sleeves rather than their hands and avoid touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. They are also asked to only use public transit for essential trips and practice social distancing while on the bus.
