Corunna man charged with second degree murder

A 51-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder for the death of a woman in St. Clair Township.

Lambton County OPP responded to an incident on Riverside Drive sometime during the early morning hours of New Year's Eve. When officers arrived, one person was confirmed dead at the scene and another was arrested.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Cheryl Vanhuizen of Corunna.

Shawn Trowbridge, also of Corunna was arrested and charged with second degree murder. He appeared in court on Friday, and remains in custody.

The investigation is now under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch with help from the OPP Forensic Identification Services and Lambton OPP Crime Unit.

Police say there is no concern for the public's safety.
