Mobile app leads Lambton OPP to lost Pinery hiker

Lambton OPP say a mobile app helped them find a lost hiker in Pinery Provincial Park recently.

Police were called at around 5 p.m. January 7 by a woman who got turned around in the 25 square kilometer park and couldn't find the trail.

The hiker was told to download the What3Words app on her phone, provided officers with the three words on her screen, and police were able to track her location within three square meters.

The app is available on Android and Apple devices, and if downloaded before a trip, doesn't use cellular data.
