COVID outbreak declared at Sarnia Jail

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Sarnia Jail.

Lambton Public Health said Saturday that it received laboratory-confirmed positive test results for four staff members at the jail.

The health unit said an institutional workplace outbreak is declared when there are two or more lab-confirmed cases with an epidemiological link in the workplace within a 14-day period, where both or several cases could have reasonably acquired their infection in the workplace.

Lambton Public Health also confirmed an outbreak, reported by Lambton County Friday, at Sarnia's Marshall Gowland Manor. One staff member at the county-run home on Devine Street tested positive.

A long-term care or other communal living setting outbreak is declared facility-wide when one or more lab-confirmed case(s) in a staff member or resident and possible exposure to others in the setting has occurred.

The health authority said all individuals impacted have been notified.
