City seeking public comment on Clearwater Arena hub plans

The City of Sarnia wants public feedback on its proposal to create a community hub at Clearwater Arena on Wellington Street.

The plan includes moving the Mallroad Library branch to the arena's upper hall, where renovations are already underway.

General Manager of Community Services Stacey Forfar said the lower main floor hall, which is already home to the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame, could be further leveraged to include additional classes or activities.

"At this time, there are no particular plans," said Forfar. "We're really looking to sort of road test this idea with the community and see if there's interest in that sort of consolidation. As you know, that location also has a YMCA nearby and there's certainly an opportunity to build some bridges there with those surrounding uses. Hopefully in the future we can intensify that site even further with more community service offerings."

Forfar said there's a virtual open house taking place on January 20 at 4 p.m.

Registration is now open at www.speakupsarnia.ca, and also features an online survey.

Even if you don't register in advance, Forfar said you can still tune in and watch.
