Another COVID-19 death in Sarnia-Lambton

There's been another COVID-19 death in Sarnia-Lambton.

Lambton Public Health reported Friday that the death toll is now at 37, up from 36.

It's the 26th death at Bluewater Health. Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said a female senior died.

The health unit website shows a second resident death at Vision Rest Home in the latest outbreak at the Wellington Street facility declared January 13. At last report, 32 residents and 14 staff had been infected.

There are 10 new confirmed cases of the virus for a total of 1,817 since the end of March. The number of resolved cases is up six at 1,673, putting the active case count at 107, an increase of three.

There are now eight institutional and workplace outbreaks, up from seven on Thursday.

The latest outbreak was declared at Lambton Meadowview Villa in Petrolia after one staff member tested positive. At Village on the St. Clair Retirement Home, 27 residents and 14 staff members have tested positive since an outbreak was declared nearly a month ago on December 30.

Bluewater Health still has seven COVID-positive patients in hospital. Oosterman said two are in intensive care on ventilators.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
