Municipal taxes in Warwick Township going up 2.5%

Municipal taxes in Warwick Township are going up 2.5 per cent this year.

Council approved a 2021 budget that will raise $62,500 in new revenue to address operational cost increases agreed to in previous years, and significant insurance rate hikes.

The $11.2 million dollar operating budget also includes hiring staff to support provincial asset management plan initiatives, and addresses an increase of nearly $14,000 in policing costs.

The tax hike will increase the municipal portion of the Warwick property tax bill by about $11 per $100,000 of residential assessment.

The $10.3 million dollar capital budget includes $4.75 million for the new community hall construction project in Watford, and $2 million for arena upgrades. There's also $500,000 to refresh a portion of Warwick Drive, $400,000 to replace a snowplow, $485,000 to complete Hickory Creek Line Rehabilitation and four bridge and culvert improvement projects worth $477,500. Council also directed $1,045,450 to reserves for construction of a new salt shed and wash bay.
