Extra barriers installed at popular Lake Chipican for pedestrian safety

The City of Sarnia has taken steps to bolster pedestrian safety at Lake Chipican.

A steady increase in Canatara Park users this winter has created concerns about vehicles parking too close to pedestrian walkways.

City staff have installed extra armour stone barriers to prevent vehicles from parking at Lake Chipican, where residents gather to ice skate on the shallow lake and play hockey.

Parks Manager Patti Ross said in a report to city council that the beach parking lot adjacent to Lake Chipican remains open, and is maintained through the winter for vehicles to park. She said park users are encouraged to use that lot so people can safely walk in the area.
