Despite challenges caused by the COVID pandemic, Bluewater Health has maintained its position on the list of the top 50 hospitals in Canada.
The hospital is ranked 38th for a second straight year, in the list developed by Statista Inc., and published by Newsweek.
President and CEO Mike Lapaine said this year's ranking carries even more weight than usual as the hospital navigates through the pandemic.
"It's been particularly tough because, when you think about patient survey results, it's been very difficult for patients and visitors bringing their family into the hospital," said Lapaine. "That's been something that we hope to never have to navigate again. It's been a hardship for our patients, our patients' families, and we've tried to do our best. Hopefully people recognize that and we continue to be on the list in the future."
Lapaine said it's a tribute to all of the hard work being done by physicians and administrative staff.
The ranking, based on recommendations from health professionals, takes into account factors like like wait times, infection rates, and patient feedback.
Toronto had the top four facilities, and six hospitals in the top 10 Canadian hospitals, while Montreal had two hospitals, and Calgary and Vancouver each had one.
