Lambton Public Health says a staff member at Marshall Gowland Manor has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the health unit to declare an outbreak in the home's 'Ivy Neighbourhood'.
The health unit said the employee has not entered the home since testing positive, and residents and their families have been notified. Residents and staff will be tested for the virus.
The employee's close contacts will be contacted by Lambton Public Health.
Lambton County General Manager of Long-Term Care Jane Joris said the home continues to work closely with public health and is diligently following all of the policies and protocols put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"We want to assure the people who live at Marshall Gowland Manor, their families and our staff, that their health and safety continues to be our top priority," said Joris. "We continue to conduct thorough, routine staff testing and ensure protection and prevention measures are in place at the home to keep the people living at the home and our staff safe and healthy."
Marshall Gowland Manor is home to 127 people, and employs almost 200 staff members.
It's the fourth COVID-19 outbreak at the Devine Street facility since the pandemic began. Outbreaks were also declared on May 15, 2020, January 15, 2021, and February 24, 2021.
A long-term care or other communal living setting outbreak is declared facility-wide when one or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 case(s) in a staff member or resident and possible exposure to others in the setting has occurred.
There are currently 11 active institutional and school outbreaks across Sarnia-Lambton.
