High temperature record smashed in Sarnia Thursday

A 20-year-old temperature record was smashed in Sarnia Thursday as a stretch of unseasonably mild April weather continued.

Environment Canada said the mercury hit 28.1 C, 82 F, at Chris Hadfield Airport, easily surpassing the previous record of 24.9 C for April 8 set in 2001.

Normal highs for this time of year in Sarnia are 12 C, 54 F.

The above normal temperatures will continue into the weekend with highs in the 20s before dropping to a more seasonal high of 14 C, 57 F, Sunday.

Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast for both Friday and Saturday with marginal risk of severe weather including strong wind gusts, lightning and heavy downpours.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
