North end Sarnia house fire causes $300K damage

Damage is estimated at $300,000 in a north end house fire Sunday.

Sarnia Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus said just after 8:15 a.m., four trucks responded to a two-storey home on Beach Lane near Colborne Road.

"It looks like it was an outside fire that got into the house," said Bus. "They were battling north winds at the same time, so that made things pretty difficult. Once it got into the house, it kind of got into the duct work as well. It made things difficult, but crews did a fantastic job containing it to the damage that it was."

Bus said the cause is believed to be accidental and not suspicious in nature.

There were no injuries reported.

Later Sunday, at around 6 p.m., firefighters responded to a fully involved garage fire on Telfer Road near London Line. They were able to contain the fire to the garage and no damage was done to the adjacent home.

An official cause had not been determined but Platoon Chief Chris McGrath said it was not considered suspicious. He said damage was extensive but an estimate was not immediately available.
