Sarnia police ticket a dozen city hall lockdown protesters

Sarnia police have charged 12 people in connection with Saturday lockdown protests at city hall this month.

Police said each of them was issued an $880 ticket for violating the Reopening Act of Ontario April 24, and several received second tickets for a gathering on April 17.

While trying to educate and warn those attending the protests, police said officers have been met with resistance and a lack of willingness to comply.

They said they will continue to approach the protests in a balanced manner, and hope individuals try to understand the need to protect everyone in the community.

Further charges are expected pending identification of others in attendance.
