Petrolia man turns $1 in $100K with lottery win

A skilled tradesman from Petrolia is celebrating after he turned $1 into $100,000.

Jason Hodgins matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in the exact order in the January 16, 2021 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

He said he took his wife with him to a store to check the ticket.

“I was excited thinking I won a couple thousand dollars," Hodgins said. “I didn't think it was real. It was a good moment – my wife was more excited than I was.”

Hodgins, a father of one with another baby on the way, is planning to save most of the winnings but wants to buy a new crib for the baby, and a new couch.

“I’ll treat myself to a metal detector and my son to a Nintendo Switch. It’s still unbelievable and surreal. It’s so nice to see my bank balance jump up."

The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on Plank Road in Sarnia.
