Driver killed in London Line crash identified, vehicle reported stolen

City police say a 51-year-old Sarnia man killed in a crash on London Line early Friday morning was driving a stolen vehicle.

They said Michael David Simmons was ejected from the vehicle when it left the road, rolled, struck a concrete hydro pole, and came to rest on all four wheels.

Officers responded to the 1700 block near the Howard Johnson Inn at around 5 a.m.

The lone occupant was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle had been reported stolen on May 2, 2021, from a laneway in Sarnia.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and possible contributing factors.
