Sarnia police make arrest following restaurant break-in

A 45-year-old Sarnia man accused of stealing a money deposit bag with more than $5,000 in cash from a local restaurant is facing charges.

Sarnia police said a break-in was reported at a restaurant located in the 1300 block of London Road on May 14, shortly after 3 p.m.

Police said a Sarnia man allegedly stole a deposit bag full of cash and a purse that contained debit and credit cards, as well as personal identification.

A suspect was identified through video surveillance and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The accused was found near the intersection of London Road and Murphy Road around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Police allegedly recovered four grams of methamphetamine and some of the stolen items during the arrest, but a large amount of cash remains missing.

The man was charged with possession of a controlled substance, break and enter, theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of probation.

He was remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear in court May 25.
