Weapon charges have been laid following a lengthy standoff between Sarnia police and two suspects who barricaded themselves inside a home.
Officers responded to a firearms complaint on Montrose Street at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said there were concerns for the welfare of those present.
Police said several individuals exited the home without incident, but two men barricaded themselves in a room in the basement and were not being cooperative with police.
Members of the Sarnia Police Service Negotiating Team were brought in to assist with the situation, and nearby residents were asked to remain in their homes, and avoid the area.
Police said at around 6:45 p.m., following extensive negotiations, the two suspects exited the residence without incident.
During a search of the residence, police allegedly located a .303 calibre high-powered bolt action rifle with three rounds of ammunition in a magazine and another round of ammunition chambered in the firearm.
Corey Devin Maness, 32, of Sarnia, and Joshua Frederick Wolfe, 26, are each charged with failing to store a firearm properly, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Maness is facing additional charges of two counts of failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
Wolfe is facing additional charges of six counts possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, breach of probation, and possession of a schedule substance (opioid).
Both accused were being held custody pending a bail hearing.
