Lambton College names new women's basketball coach

Lambton College's women's basketball team has a new head coach.

The Lions announced this week that Janine Day is taking over the role this season, and Kendel Ross' contract will not be renewed.

Day is a local graduate of Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School and currently a teacher at Wallaceburg District Secondary School. She also served as coach for the Red Deer College women's basketball team.

"I'm really looking forward to this exciting opportunity," said Day. "With the new facilities at the College and increased emphasis on athletics, I am excited about building the program even further."

When asked for comment by Blackburn News, Ross said "I am taking time to process before commenting publicly. It is important to me that what I choose to comment comes from a place of love for this community and the college from my hometown. To get there, I need more time."

Ross was originally named head coach of the team in March of 2017. Before she took over, the team struggled to a 5-13 record.

She coached the Lions to a berth in the Ontario championships in 2020.
