VON strike enters sixth week

There's still no end in sight to the VON Sarnia-Lambton strike, now heading into its sixth week.

LiUNA Local 3000 Business Representative Ken Sharpe said there have been talks with the employer but they have not officially returned to the bargaining table.

Sharpe said nurses are being brought in from Toronto and Fort Erie "at elevated rates of pay" to care for local clients.

The 24 registered practical nurses (RPNs) walked off the job on May 1, after contract talks were unsuccessful.
