Sarnia man pays $110 fine for failing to quarantine

A Sarnia man is out $110 after pleading guilty to a pandemic-related charge issued April 2020.

Patrick McHenry, 73, pleaded guilty to section 58 of the Quarantine Act in the Sarnia Provincial Offences Court June 22.

McHenry was charged under section 71 of the act April 6, 2020 for failing to self-quarantine for 14 days after returning from out-of-country.  At the time, the ticket carried a fine of $750 plus a $130 victim surcharge for a total of $880.

A spokesperson from the Sarnia courthouse said McHenry recently received a fine of $85 plus costs ($110 total), which was a joint submission.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
