Bright's Grove native chosen by Tigers in MLB Draft

Bright's Grove native Jordan Marks is one step closer to realizing his dream of playing Major League Baseball.

The 22-year-old was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 8th round of the league draft, held Monday.

The right hander has played the past four seasons with the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans in the Big South Conference.

In 2020-21, he pitched 95.2 innings, compiling a 10-2 record with a conference-best 2.54 ERA.

He also struck out a school-record 102 batters, while issuing just 20 walks, and allowing a league-low 32 runs.

For his efforts, Marks was named the Big South Pitcher and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Marks has also played for the Great Lake Canadians and Sarnia Braves.
