Handguns seized in Sarnia search

A 35-year-old man facing weapons related charges will appear in court again next month after five handguns were seized from a home last week.

Officers with the Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations Division started an investigation last Monday, August 9, after receiving information regarding illegal possession and careless storage of firearms in a residence.

A search warrant was executed the next day, August 10, and again on Friday, August 13, at a residence in the 200 block of Bessborough Drive in Sarnia, located in a neighbourhood just southwest of the intersection of Murphy Road and Wellington Street.

Detectives seized five handguns that police say were being illegally possessed and carelessly stored, and numerous rounds of loose ammunition.

Jeremy Michael Davis of Sarnia has been charged with five counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, five counts of careless storage of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of undertaking.

Police said the accused was held in custody, but has since been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court September 21.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
