Impaired driver flees scene of crash

Sarnia police are thanking witnesses for helping track down a driver that was involved in a hit-and-run crash.

Police were called to the 1000 block of Tashmoo Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

They said the suspect vehicle struck another and took off, but they were able to get a licence plate number from witnesses.

Police went to the suspect's home a short time later, and allegedly found a vehicle with damage consistent to the crash.

The driver was arrested, and police said he blew over four times the legal limit.

A 62-year-old man from Sarnia was arrested and charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused has an appearance at the Sarnia courthouse, scheduled for October 19.
