Dressing room expansion, upgrades underway at PASA

Significant upgrades are underway at the home of the Sarnia Sting.

Crews have started work to relocate and expand the team's dressing room at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

It'll connect to the rest of the team's campus inside of the rink and reduce visitor traffic in the arena operations area.

Community Services General Manager Stacey Forfar said the project, which includes a new floor and roofing upgrades, has been in the works for a few years.

"These projects were approved through the 2021 capital budget and, given COVID, things have been a bit slower to get off of the ground," said Forfar. "The total funding allocation from the city's angle is $900,000 at this time."

Forfar said once the Sting dressing room is complete, they'll be able to create a new gender neutral change room and washroom.

She expects construction to wrap up by the end of 2022.

Future improvements to the rink, triggered by the signing of a new lease agreement in 2019, are expected to include new boards and glass.
