Sarnia police officer charged with sexual assault

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has laid charges against a Sarnia police officer following a sexual assault investigation.

The province's police watchdog launched an investigation after being contacted by the Sarnia Police Service on June 4.

An SIU report released Thursday indicated that the charges laid were in connection to alleged incidents that took place between March 2018 and June 2021.

Cst. Christopher Noordam was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust by an official.

Noordam is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on September 15.

Sarnia Police Service said the officer has been placed on administrative leave.

Further details were not provided by the SIU or Sarnia police as the matter is now before the courts.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
