UPDATE: Careless smoking sparks morning basement fire

Sarnia Fire and Rescue say a fire on Friday morning was accidental in nature, caused by careless smoking.

The fire department was called to a basement fire in the 200 block of Forsyth Street just after 7 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and damage was pegged at around $60,000.

Forsyth Street was closed from Essex Street to George Street, but has since re-opened.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
