Alleged drunk driver leaves crash scene with beer in hand

A 47-year-old Sarnia man has been charged with impaired driving after a vehicle mounted the curb and struck a sign on Saturday.

City police were called to the area of Exmouth Street and Melrose Avenue at around 6:45 p.m.

They said the vehicle sustained damage to the side view mirror and had a flat front passenger tire.

The accused was allegedly seen by witnesses walking away from the scene with a beer in his hand, and was arrested a short distance away by police.

Police said he blew three times the legal limit.

He is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on October 19.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
