Loonies For Lunches supports local children in need

The 16th annual Loonies For Lunches Campaign gets underway August 30.

When residents visit local McDonald's restaurants, they'll be asked for a minimum $1 donation to go toward the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Executive Director Myles Vanni said money raised will provide children in need with lunch and snack items as they return to the classroom this fall.

"Typically they raise about $8,000 to $9,000 which is tremendous support that gets a lot of granola bars and juice boxes and such for kids," said Vanni. "Typically we serve about 400 or 450 kids whose families use the foodbank every month. We're also preparing about 1,000 backpacks for back to school."

Vanni said the fundraiser has raised an incredible $100,000 over the past 15 years.

He said the backpacks contain things like paper, pencils, and calculators.

You can also make a donation, until September 12, by visiting www.theinnsarnia.ca.
