UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms forecast Tuesday

Severe thunderstorms are in the forecast for Sarnia-Lambton.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the region at around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. Just after 8 p.m., the watch was upgraded to a warning.

At around 10:30 p.m., the warning was downgraded back to a severe thunderstorm watch.

The national weather agency said conditions were favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts of 110 km/h, damaging hail and heavy rain. It said a tornado was also possible.

The storms are expected to come across the area into the late evening.

Environment Canada is reminding residents that very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury.

Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
