Maintenance shutdown underway at Suncor refinery

A maintenance shutdown at Suncor's Sarnia refinery begins Friday.

In a notice shared through community awareness emergency response, the company said it will begin the process of safely shutting down process units during the afternoon.

Suncor said periods of increased flaring and noise may be noticed.

The maintenance is likely to take three weeks to complete, and increased flaring is only expected during start up and shutdown activities.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
