International Lambton College student concerned over lack of housing

An international student attending Lambton College is growing concerned about the lack of housing for those coming from other countries.

Koushik Madhi recently came to the community from India.

He said while he's been able to secure a place to live, others haven't been so lucky.

"So many people have renewed their Airbnb stays for a longer period because they're still not able to get a place," said Madhi. "To be honest, the prices have gone up in the past month. I've hardly been here a month and the prices have almost doubled on Facebook and Kijiji. Where are we going to get this money? We're students, some of us don't have a job yet."

Madhi said it's difficult to get a place to live before coming to Canada because many landlords insist on in-person visits.

He said while most people have been kind, a few students he's spoken with have also faced some racism.

In July, Lambton College also put out an appeal, asking anyone with extra space to consider renting out a room.
