There will be plenty of rain and some below seasonal temperatures when fall arrives in Sarnia-Lambton Wednesday afternoon.
The autumnal equinox is set for September 22 at 3:20 p.m.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Gerald Cheng said it'll be a cool and wet start to the season, with forecasted highs around 16 C, 61 F for the first few days. "Which I guess is what people associate with fall, because certainly in the summertime we get thunderstorms, and we're still getting some of that, but we have to get used to these big systems that can bring rain, wind, and eventually, snow."
On Tuesday, Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the area, saying significant rainfall was expected through Wednesday night.
Cheng said the average high for this time of year is 21 C, 70 F, adding that fall is a transitional season.
"We'll be back up to 20 C, 68 F by Friday, and that's really indicative of fall where we do see big jumps in temperatures, big changes in weather conditions."
Cheng was asked when the Sarnia-Lambton area can expect to see some snow.
"At least towards the end of September, I'm seeing things are looking up in terms of temperatures, and I think we will close September with seasonal temperatures. But as we head into late October and even November, it's something to keep in mind because snow will come eventually."
The average snowfall in Sarnia in the month of October is around 1.8 centimetres.
