Sarnia police seize over $17K in drugs

A 35-year-old Sarnia man is facing charges after police seized a significant amount of drugs including suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine.

Officers received a driving complaint, in the area of Devine Street and John Street, at around 10:50 p.m. Wednesday.

During the investigation, it's alleged that a total of $17,586 worth of drugs were found.

Police seized 64.3 grams of suspected fentanyl, worth $12,860; 42.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, worth $3,376; and 13.5 grams of suspected cocaine, worth $1,350.

Sarnia police also seized $975 in Canadian currency and $160 in American currency.

Police said Levi James Hayes was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He will remain in police custody pending a bail hearing.

Charges laid against the accused have not been proven in court.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
