Cabin donation referred to budget discussions

Sarnia council has referred a request from the Sarnia Heritage Committee to 2022 operating budget discussions.

The committee adopted a motion at its September 9 meeting to donate $1,000 out of its operating budget to the Lambton County Log Cabin Restoration Fund.

Community Services General Manager Stacey Forfar told council Monday the city contributed about $55,000, and hundreds of staff hours, to relocate the Canatara log cabin to the Lambton Heritage Museum last December.

About $100,000 is needed to rebuild and restore the nearly 200-year-old structure, but the fundraising campaign has only raised just over $22,000 since November.
