United Way campaign lagging behind last year

In six weeks, the Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign has raised over $600,000.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they have raised 34 per cent of the $1.75 million target.

He said they're still about $30,000 behind last year's pace, but he's confident they can make it up.

"There's a number of campaigns that are still running and some that are still kicking off, including Suncor, and they seem to be off to a great start," said Brown. "Suncor employees have their annual parking lot auction today, which raises thousands of dollars for the United Way, and I understand their goal this year is $30,000 from just the parking lot auction alone".

Brown said so far over 1,370 people have contributed to this year's fundraising effort.

The United Way helps fund 20 local agencies providing 40 programs and services.
