Impaired driver damages light post on Indian Road

A 69-year-old Sarnia man is charged with impaired driving after a car slammed into a light post on Indian Road, near Exmouth Street.

Police were called to the area at around 8 p.m. Saturday, and found the pole lying on the ground.

They said the driver was showing signs of impairment and was arrested. It's alleged he blew twice the legal limit at police headquarters.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

The accused faces one count of impaired operation of a conveyance and one count of operation impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
