Three homes extensively damaged in Camlachie fire

Three houses were extensively damaged in a serious early morning fire on Friday in Camlachie.

About 40 firefighters from three stations responded to Forsyth Trail in the Hillsborough Beach community.

Plympton-Wyoming Fire Chief Darryl Thompson said the homes were fully involved when they arrived at around 5 a.m.

"Forest, I believe, was the first department to arrive," said Thompson. "They had set up a water supply and started the fire attack. Plympton-Wyoming then showed up and assisted in the fire attack and controlled the exposures. The houses in that area are quite close together and the three houses that were on fire were certainly involved. We did our best to mitigate the damage there."

Thompson said firefighters from the Lambton Shores station also responded.

He said crews were there for about seven hours to make sure the fire was fully contained and didn't spread further.

"We had an excavator come in and we worked with the gas and hydro companies to ensure the utilities were looked after for community safety and for the firefighters themselves."

A damage estimate is not available, no injuries were reported, and the cause right now is listed as undetermined.

The investigation is ongoing, and Enbridge Gas and Hydro One crews remained on scene through the afternoon.
