County childcare relief before Christmas

Local families will be spending less on daycare next month, in fact many will spend nothing at all.

The County of Lambton Children's Services Department will be covering the cost of childcare for all families and all age groups for December, 2021.

Assistant Childcare Supervisor Jackie Sanderson said the county is happy to be able to help out area families, especially as we approach the holiday season.

"Families in Lambton are still feeling the burden of the pandemic and daycare is always a large expense to a family," said Sanderson. "The childcare agencies will bill the County of Lambton directly for this relief funding, so any families that generally have fees withdrawn, will not have them withdrawn for the month of December."

She said this was made possible due to lower enrollment for childcare in 2021, and the Ministry of Education was flexible with its funding to allow for the relief.

Sanderson said the one time assistance will cover childcare expenses for about 2,200 children at licensed facilities.
