Can-do attitude helps Sarnia cops raise record amount of food

The Sarnia-Lambton community donated over 15,000 pounds of food during this year's Cops for Cans event.

Sarnia police said the total of 15,098, smashed the initiative's previous record of 11,879 pounds of food set a few years ago.

The ninth annual campaign saw officers stationed outside Walmart on Quinn Drive, Kyle’s No Frills on Exmouth Street, and the Real Canadian Superstore on Murphy Road Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- all the proceeds were donated to The Inn of the Good Shepherd.

"It truly opens your eyes when you can see that there is good in the world despite all the awful things we hear about each day," said Cst. John Sottosanti in a media release.  "Our community has always been known for its generosity and it has been proven again."

Sottosanti said all of the food will go a long way to ensure people who need help have something on the table this Christmas.
