COVID outbreaks at several area nursing homes

Several area nursing homes are dealing with outbreaks of COVID-19.

Lambton Public Health is reporting a total of eight active outbreaks in the community, including seven at long-term care and retirement homes.

The most recent was declared on Monday, January 3 at Trillium Villa in Sarnia, where fewer than five cases among residents and fewer than five cases among staff have been confirmed.

At Sumac Lodge in Sarnia, nine residents have tested positive for the virus as well as fewer than five staff members.

The outbreaks are the first reported at local long-term care facilities since mid-July, 2021.

There have been 33 COVID-related deaths linked to outbreaks in the community since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
