89th COVID death reported in SL, 179 new cases

Sarnia-Lambton's health unit reported the community's 89th COVID-related death of the pandemic Sunday morning.

Lambton Public Health said the most recent fatality was a person in the 60+ age range who passed away in hospital --- Bluewater Health reported the death Saturday.

The health unit also reported 179 new cases Sunday, bringing the total to 7,046.  There have been 5,523 resolved cases, up 39 over the past 24 hours.

Active infections are at 1,434, up 139 from Saturday, and active outbreaks have increased from 12 to 14.

Bluewater Health is reporting 34 COVID-positive patients in hospital, up from 33 Saturday.  The hospital has reported a total of 75 COVID-related deaths during the pandemic, the majority being local residents.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
