Sting hang on to beat Attack 4-3

The Sarnia Sting scored three powerplay goals and held off a late surging Attack team in a 4-3 win in Owen Sound Sunday.

Sting defenceman Ethan Ritchie opened the scoring at 8:39 of the first period, his third goal of the year.  Easton Wainwright made it 2-0 at 17:17 of the opening frame, his first OHL goal and Sarnia's lone even strength goal of the game.

Nolan DeGurse increased Sarnia's lead to three at 7:58 of the second period, his ninth of the season.  Nolan Burke made it 4-0 early in the third period, the Sting's third powerplay goal out of six times with the man advantage.

Owen Sound found the scoresheet at 6:11 of the third period.  The Attack would add two more goals in the final frame, at 14:24 and 18:06, but ultimately came up short.

Sting goaltender Anson Thornton made 40 saves in the win and forward Ty Voit added two assists.

Sarnia is back in action Thursday night in Windsor.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
