Pt. Edward man accused of drunk driving, snapping hydro pole in half

A Point Edward man accused of driving drunk, crashing into a hydro pole and leaving a vehicle at the scene has been charged with impaired driving.

Sarnia police responded to a collision in the area of Christina Street and Errol Road at around 4:40 a.m. Sunday. Police arrived to find a hydro pole snapped in half and a vehicle with significant front-end damage.

While the driver was not present, police immediately determined who the owner of the vehicle was. Officers attended the suspect's residence and placed him under arrest.

The 52-year-old, who did not appear to have sustained any injuries during the crash, was transported to Sarnia Police Headquarters to provide a breath sample. Police determined that the driver had over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The man was issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and has a court date set for next month.
