Weather statement issued ahead of 'messy storm'

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of southwestern Ontario as a "messy" storm is expected this week.

The weather advisory was issued for areas, including Sarnia-Lambton, on Tuesday.

The national weather agency said a low-pressure system is expected to move northeast across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Up to 25 millimeters of rain is expected late Wednesday through to Thursday and will likely change to snow Thursday evening. Freezing rain and ice pellets are also possible on Thursday, which could create slick driving conditions.

Environment Canada said local blowing snow is possible overnight Thursday. About four to eight centimeters of snowfall is possible from Thursday evening through to Friday morning.

The mix of winter precipitation is expected late Wednesday through Friday morning.
