Hwy. 402 on-ramp at Front St. to remain closed for now

There's no estimate as to when the westbound Highway 402 on-ramp at Front Street in Sarnia will reopen after being closed for over a week.

511 Ontario, a Twitter account operated by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), said the on-ramp remains closed due to a malfunctioning gate.

However, the Federal Bridge Corporation said the information reported by the MTO was incorrect.

In an emailed statement to Sarnia News Today, Chief Corporate Services Officer Rémi Paquette said the current closure is not due to a malfunctioning gate, protests, or blockades, but for traffic management purposes.

"We keep it closed these days to manage traffic onto the lanes and plaza," said Paquette, who also said closing the on-ramp, for this reason, is not a common occurrence.

The on-ramp has been closed since the morning of Sunday, February 6.

Paquette said at this time there is no estimated timeline for re-opening.
