Global Donuts sees great turnout during this year's paczki event

The owner of Global Donuts & Deli is raving about his staff after another successful paczki event.

Owner Gus Pantazis said between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, approximately just over 1,700 dozen paczki were sold.

He said he's pleased with the turnout, especially considering last year's snowstorm on Fat Tuesday.

"This year there was no snowstorm, the weather was fine and my staff worked like crazy," said Pantazis. "They worked for eight-hour shifts, they ran the full eight hours and not one of them complained. They just were absolutely amazing."

Of the paczki sold this year, there were no surprises for most and least popular flavours.

"Custard seems to be the most popular flavour people enjoy. The least favourite is the traditional one, prune, or what I call 'dried plum,'" laughed Pantazis. "But because we made less than normal, we sold out of prune Wednesday morning."

Paczki are eaten as part of Shrove Tuesday ahead of 40 days of Lent, which started on March 2.
