Downtown Sarnia losing another bank

Another bank in downtown Sarnia is closing its doors for good this summer.

Scotiabank is relocating its services from its Christina Street branch over to its Exmouth Street location June 28.

In an email to Sarnia News Today, Communications Manager Valerie Huang said the difficult decision was made after careful consideration.

"We feel that this relocation will help us provide better service and greater resources to our customers in both communities," read the email. "Our Exmouth Street branch is a larger location with more staff, wider business hours and resources to better help us serve our communities."

Huang said Scotiabank's primary focus at this time is to communicate any changes to all affected customers and work with them to ensure a smooth transition.

"Our teams in both Christina Street and Exmouth Street are committed to assisting all customers with any questions they may have," said Huang.

Scotiabank branches on Indian Road and Waterworks Side Road in Sarnia are also open to assist customers.

Huang added that the company has notified its employees of this decision and are working with them individually through the transition.

"Scotiabank has a long tradition of treating employees fairly, equitably and with respect in all circumstances, and we will continue to do so in this case."

In May of 2018, Sarnia's downtown CIBC branch closed its doors. Then in June of 2019, the Bank of Montreal on Christina Street relocated its services to the BMO on Exmouth Street.
